About the Manchester

A Renaissance

Just before the century, the pioneering spirit of entrepreneurs, such as L.D. Manchester, had a great deal to do with the economic growth of Fargo–Moorhead, and the entire Red River Valley. In the summer of 1899, Mr. Manchester “cast discretion to the wind”, and erected a substantial concrete/ brick structure, that would provide a home for his growing cracker and cookie business. It is said that he started this venture in Luverne, Minnesota, and after Fargo came Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he started another operation, for his cracker and cookie business. Over the ensuing years, the Manchester Biscuit Company would grow, expand, and prosper playing an important role in the economic development of this Midwest hub of business and industry. It is worth noting that two additional expansions to the Manchester Biscuit Company occurred in 1934, and again in 1954. Today, this substantial concrete brick structure is no longer a cracker and cookie operation, but a substantial office building, where the same pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit of L.D. Manchester lives on, and we believe that our best days lie ahead.

The Manchester Office Building today contains close to 60,000 sq. ft. of office space, and as we look back at the last quarter century, we can identify with many companies that grew their business here, such as American Crystal, Melroe Company (now Bobcat), Midwest Management (now Goldmark), and many others that trace their beginnings to this building.

We continue that entrepreneurial spirit today, and as you view our building directory you will find the names of many local and national companies that you may recognize. It is our goal is to keep improving as we continue forward.

Our goal is to be creative in design, and to blend our past into modern, attractive, enjoyable work spaces where our tenants can grow their companies, creating greater economic value for our community.

Today, the Manchester Office Building and its parking lot/s cover a city block—that means convenient parking for you and your guests. Green areas surround the office building.
